A Difficult Decision Deserves Thoughtful Follow-Through
Whether you are supporting one departing employee or navigating a broader organizational change, you want people to leave with dignity and a useful path forward.
Providing career transition support gives employees someone to turn to as they work through questions about their capabilities, career direction, and next opportunity. It also demonstrates to remaining employees that care for people extends through difficult decisions.
Practical Guidance. Personal Support.
An unexpected job loss can leave even an accomplished professional uncertain about where to begin.
Through individual coaching and a structured approach built on Job Search: How to Hunt, we help departing employees:
Establish direction. Clarify their goals, priorities, and opportunities worth pursuing.
Understand their contribution. Identify capabilities and the evidence behind them.
Prepare their message. Develop resumes, introductions, and examples that connect their experience to employer needs.
Build relationships. Approach networking and employer conversations with purpose.
Prepare for interviews. Practice listening, responding clearly, and discussing their experience with authentic confidence.
Evaluate opportunities. Consider expectations, leadership, culture, and mutual FIT.
Begin their next role. Prepare to establish productive relationships and contribute.
Preparation gives effort direction.
Support Grounded in Both Sides of the Employment Relationship
Gerry Peterson brings decades of experience in human resources, operations, organizational change, executive search, leadership development, and career coaching.
That experience provides an understanding of the decisions employers face and the questions departing employees must answer.
Gerry also knows career disruption personally. Following a stroke in 2007, his role was eliminated five months later. He founded Tartan Group in 2008. That experience informs a practical, personal approach to helping others move forward.
Plan the Support Before It Is Needed
We begin with a conversation about your situation:
How many employees need support?
What roles and career stages are represented?
When will the transitions occur?
What level of individual guidance would be useful?
How should employees be introduced to the available support?
Together, we can define the scope, timing, and approach so you have a clear offering to communicate.
Let's Discuss Your Situation
If your organization is considering a workforce change or supporting an individual departure, we welcome a confidential conversation about your needs.
